Indiana recruiting Robert Goff...again

Former Broad Ripple stand-out Robert Goff, who was offered a scholarship from IU out of high school but ultimately ended up at Hutchinson, is being recruited by Tom Crean and staff. He plans on making it out to Bloomington for an official visit on August 2nd. The power forward, who stands at 6-9 and has bulked up to 240 pounds, has been tearing it up on the JUCO front and had a strong showing this past weekend in Las Vegas. Rivals' Eric Bossi describes Goff as the best JUCO big-man prospect available in 2011.
"Explosive off the floor, he rises above the crowd for backboard shaking dunks, runs the floor and contests shots around the rim. Love the way he finishes with either hand." - Rivals' Eric Bossi on Robert Goff
On the surface, this interest may seem as a contingency plan in case Cody Zeller does not end up at Indiana. However, I think that this is a smart move for IU even if Zeller chooses the Hoosiers. He will have two years of eligibility (2011-12 and 2012-13) and will definitely be able to contribute. Goff will come in as a junior with two seasons of college experience and a Big-Ten body. Assuming our players don't leave early, the roster will include Verdell Jones as the experienced senior leader, last year's freshman as juniors with another full year of D1 ball under their belts, and an incoming class featuring at least Austin Etherington (along with Yogi and Cody perhaps???). I may be a bit biased, but that looks like a roster that is certainly capable of making a run at a Big Ten title and beyond. As long as Crean can keep his scholarship numbers under control, I am all for offering Robert when he is in town this weekend.
