IU loses 2 football players

Senior DT Jarrod Smith, who suffered numerous back injuries that kept him out a lot of last season and the entire spring so far, is leaving the football program as a medical hardship. He will remain on scholarship but he will not count towards the teams total this season.
Meanwhile, sophomore WR-turned-DB Shane Covington has decided to transfer out of the football program. The natural wideout was forced to switch to defense due to the depth of the Hoosiers young receiving core, yet did not get much playing time regardless.
While it is always sad to see players leave the program, these two moves actually help out the Hoosiers scholarship situation. Two open slots are now open for new signees and the IU staff has already been doing a phenominal job of bringing in a talented recruiting class for this upcoming season.
Best of luck to both Jarrod and Shane in the future.
