Big Ten Media Day Highlights

There has a been a lot going in on the Big Ten Conference the past few months, and yesterday kicked off the 2010 Big Ten Media days. Conference commissioner Jim Delany did not have an answer to every question, but he did drop some interesting bits of knowledge. Some highlights:

* With Nebraska joining the conference for the 2011 season, the Big Ten will officially have a conference championship game.

* Delany said that he hopes to have a plan for how to divide the conference into divisions within the next 30-45 days. In order for their to be a championship game, the conference has to be divided into two groups of 6 teams. There are a lot of different ideas floating around, but my favorite can be found here, at BigTenCooler.com.

* The idea of expanding the conference schedule from eight to nine games has been floating around, and some Athletic Directors and coaches like it more than others. There are no plans to change it, or to not change it, at this point in time.

* The conference is currently focusing on fully integrating Nebraska into the conference, rather than looking to continue expansion. Expansion rumors certainly will continue, of course, especially after the 2011 season gets underway.

* When asked if Notre Dame was a candidate to join the Big Ten, Delany said that he believes they will remain independent in football and a part of the Big East for everything else.
