BJ Young to Arkansas

BJ Young, the only big target not named Cody that Crean has been going after for 2011, has committed to play at the University of Arkansas after his official visit this weekend. Rivals has Young as the #18 overall prospect, two ahead of Mr. Zeller. There has been a lot of talk about Young's academic situation, but so far everything out there is based in rumors. Young has family members living in Arkansas and he scheduled his official visit so he could also spend time with family over the holiday weekend. This visit was his only official campus visit to any school, though he told Inside The Hall last week that he was planning on coming to Bloomington at some point. BJ is definitely a great talent and we at the Source wish him all the best. It's a shame the Razorbacks and Hoosiers may never cross paths.
The question now is what happens next for Crean and staff? Do we go back after the few remaining point guards in the class, like Naadir Tharpe, or does Crean keep the scholarship in his back pocket and step his game up on top priorities like Zeller and Yogi Ferrell. Crean has shown that he wants to bring in a quick point guard in the next couple years, so my guess is that he puts the full court press on Yogi in order to get him to commit. A verbal from Ferrell would allow Crean to focus on Zeller even more, especially with his official visit coming in late October.
Young's decision to be a Razorback has some positives surrounding it. First of all, Young would be taking a lot of playing time from certain current and future Hoosiers. There are also the rumored grade issues with Young and it is better that we are not involved if there is any truth to the stories. Overall, it would have been great to land Young, but now that he is off the radar the attention has be redirected towards other targets.
