James Blackmon Jr. commits to IU (2014)

We have news from multiple sources that James Blackmon Jr. has committed to play basketball at Indiana. Blackmon, who's father played at Kentucky, is part of the class of 2014. He is a freshman at Fort Wayne Luers, and although he is young he is considered by many to be a top national prospect in his class. He apparently committed to Coach Crean tonight while he and his father were in Bloomington for the football game. This is a huge accomplishment for Crean as he continues to go after the top in-state talent. There's not a whole lot of video out there right now but I did find this one. Of course this is a highlight video, but you can see Blackmon's ability to handle the ball and get into the lane and score. He also has a good-looking shot and a nice touch from three. He was a stand out at the Fab Freshman camp back in July. He also took in a football practice with Coach Crean back in August. Blackmon is only a freshman but is currently 6-2. He has a lot of time to grow, both as a player and in height, and he is one of the more talked about prospects in his class already. It's also great to beat out Kentucky on this recruit, despite his fathers ties to Lexington. We should find out a lot more about this commitment in the coming days and we will be able to watch him develop for the next four years before he even dons the candy stripes.
