Indiana 89, Franklin 37 FINAL

Well the Hoosiers looked impressive in the first exhibition game, defeating Franklin College 89-37 Wednesday night at Assembly Hall. Fans finally got their chance to see the Hoosiers in action against another team for the first time this year, but there were a few players that didn't see the floor. Junior leader Verdell Jones is still out with an ankle injury. Not sure exactly how much longer his recovery will be but it they should be alright without him if he needs to miss a couple games early. Also not on the floor was JUCO transfer Guy-Marc Michel, who is currently under extended review by the NCAA. Tom Crean has stated that he has known about the investigation for a couple of days and has been cooperating with the NCAA on the issue, which revolves around a league that Guy played in back in France that featured some semi-pro players. Guy was not paid, so it should not be too much of an issue to get him cleared, but the NCAA often spends more time reviewing players who have played in foreign countries. Michel was on the bench today but cannot play until he is cleared.
As can be seen by the final score, this game was not much of a challenge for the Hoosiers. Sophomore Christian Watford led with 25 points in 24 minutes, while Maurice Creek and Daniel Moore added 16 and 12 respectively. Freshman Victor Oladipo contributed 9 points on 4-4 shooting, including a three-pointer and two dunks. The Hoosiers out rebounded Franklin 42-20 and forced 28 turnovers in the game.
Indiana's second and final exhibition game will be played next Monday at Assembly Hall against Ferris State. The season opener is the following Friday (Nov 12) at home against Florida Gulf Coast.
