Hoosier tidbits 12/7/10

* Despite not playing in a bowl game, the Indiana University will receive $2.47 million from the BCS thanks to the Big Ten Conference's policy of even splitting bowl money to all 11 universities. Wisconsin earns $21.2 million for the conference from their Rose Bowl berth, while Ohio State adds $6 million more for playing in the Sugar Bowl. That $27.2 million is divided equally to all 11 schools, so even the three teams that aren't playing in any bowl (IU, Purdue and Minnesota) will be profiting. This money will definitely be useful for the Hoosier football program, who have just signed new head coach Kevin Wilson to a $1.2 million/year contract and will have to hire an entire new coaching staff under him in the coming weeks. Go Big Ten!
* Scout.com released it's updated top 100 recruits list for the class of 2011. IU signee Cody Zeller moved up a few spots to #17. Zeller is the 5th highest power forward on the list. Cody is the highest ranked player headed to the Big Ten. He is one spot ahead Gary (IN) native Branden Dawson, who is headed to Michigan State. The number one overall spot goes to Kentucky-bound Anthony Davis out of Chicago.
* Remember that the Hoosier basketball team has the week off, time which they will surely use to the fullest in order to prepare for their huge matchup with #16 Kentucky Saturday in Lexington. That game will be aired on ESPN at 5:15p ET. The Wildcats are hosting #23 Notre Dame Wednesday night in Louisville as part of the SEC/Big East Invitational.

  1. Thanks for the post but I'm afraid Marquis Teague is the highest ranked player from Indiana. Or has the state disowned him for going to uk?

  2. Good point. It's easy to overlook a Kentucky commit.
