Gary Harris Recruitment RECAP - Guest Post

The first ever Windy City Hoosier Source guest post comes from contributor and Indiana-alum Kyle Dunne:

Gary Harris Recruitment Recap

With the five early commitments for the 2012 recruiting class, Tom Crean and the rest of the Indiana staff have been able to focus the majority of their recruiting efforts on Gary Harris. Harris, a SG from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, IN, is ranked 26th in Rivals’ 2012 rankings. While numerous other prospects from the state of Indiana have chosen to commit early, Harris has repeatedly insisted that he will take his time to make his decision. Harris recently told Jody Demling that Indiana, Louisville, Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue are the top schools he is considering. The list is no surprise, as each of these programs has been consistently mentioned throughout the course of his recruitment. Harris had stated earlier this spring that he had some conversation with Kentucky, though they have not formally extended him a scholarship offer.

Throughout this AAU season, Harris has been seen multiple times watching Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell, Hanner Perea, Ron Patterson and Jeremy Hollowell play. All four of those 2012 Hoosier commits had played for Indiana Elite Team Indiana, though Patterson recently chose to switch back to Indiana Elite One. If Harris commits to Indiana, he will join those four, as well as center Peter Jurkin, in what is already the top ranked recruiting class. Despite the presumably close relationship between those players, Harris has maintained that he will make the decision on what is best for him. While there isn’t another college coach in the country who is on a hotter recruiting streak than Tom Crean, it will be a challenge to beat out these other top tier programs for Harris.

Editors note: THIS is why Harris has become such a hot commodity.
