Indiana debuts at #15 in the Preseason AP Poll

The official Preseason AP Poll was released today and the Indiana Hoosiers find themselves at #15. The validity of preseason polls can be debated - no one can actually know how "good" teams and players are before the season actually starts - but it's a definite positive that Indiana finds itself in this position. The top 15 are as follows, and you can find the entire poll HERE. Number in parenthesis is first-place votes received.

1) North Carolina (35)
2) Kentucky (10)
3) Maryland (14)
4) Kansas (5)
5) Duke
6) Virginia (1)
7) Iowa State
8) Oklahoma
9) Gonzaga
10) Wichita State
11) Villanova
12) Arizona
13) Michigan State
14) California
15) Indiana

As you can see, the Hoosiers are the third highest ranked B1G team. Further down the list are Wisconsin (#17), Purdue (#23) and Michigan (#25). By my count, Indiana has at least eight games against preseason ranked opponents. That's six B1G games plus the big match-up at #5 Duke and the Crossroads Classic meeting with #19 Notre Dame. They also have the possibility of playing #18 Vanderbilt and/or #4 Kansas in Maui, which could bring that total as high as ten.

Reminder: The Hoosiers' first exhibition game is tomorrow night (TUE 11/3) at 7:00pm / 6:00pm CST. Indiana welcomes the University of Ottawa to Assembly Hall. Broadcast will be on BTN Plus, the paid online service from Big Ten Network. Both exhibition games plus the season opener against Eastern Illinois will be broadcast via this service, so it might be a worthwhile investment for one month!
